Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is a joint venture between Xi'an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool, based in Suzhou and teaching entirely in English on a curriculum validated by Liverpool. International undergraduate applicants normally enter Year One, needing a minimum B average in secondary school together with IELTS 5.0 (at least 4.5 in each section) or TOEFL 62; direct entry to Year Two is possible with stronger academic and language results, including A levels at BBB, an IB score of 30 or above, or SAT and AP results, plus IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90. Engineering, computer science and related programmes require both Mathematics and Physics at secondary school; architecture, filmmaking, TV production and digital media arts additionally ask for a portfolio and an interview. Every undergraduate programme charges the same 93,000 CNY a year tuition regardless of subject, and there is no separate application fee. Applicants who submit a complete application and all supporting documents by 15 April receive a 10 percent early bird discount on that year's tuition, and an entry scholarship of up to 50 percent of tuition is available to academically strong applicants who opt in during the online application.

Requirements

Year One entry

A minimum B average across secondary school subjects, relevant subject prerequisites for the chosen programme (both Mathematics and Physics for engineering and computer science, Mathematics for architecture and most science and business programmes), and IELTS 5.0 overall with at least 4.5 in each section, or TOEFL iBT 62.

Year Two direct entry

A levels at BBB, an International Baccalaureate score of 30 or above, or a high school diploma with a 3.0 or higher GPA together with three AP exams scoring 4 or above (or SAT/ACT plus two AP exams at 4 or above), and IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each section, or TOEFL iBT 90 with no skill below 21. Architecture, Filmmaking, TV Production and Digital Media Arts additionally require a portfolio and an interview.
