Admission at a glance

Southeast University is a national university under the Ministry of Education, based in Nanjing with its main campus at Jiulonghu. The College of International Students handles admission, scholarships, housing and daily student services for international undergraduates, graduates and exchange students together. Undergraduate applicants submit a completed application form, academic diploma and transcripts, a language certificate and a passport copy either by mail or as scanned copies by email to the admissions office, rather than through a single online portal used by every faculty. Tuition is set by field of study: 16,000 CNY a year for arts programmes, 19,000 CNY a year for engineering, and 20,000 CNY a year for medicine, and self funded students pay a non refundable 400 CNY application fee when they submit their materials. Southeast also runs a joint graduate school with Monash University in Suzhou, with its own separate tuition scale. At postgraduate level, the university teaches a wide range of master's programmes fully in English, including Civil Engineering, Computer Technology, Electrical Engineering, International Business and Transportation Engineering, each admitting through the same College of International Students.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree

Applicants must hold a foreign passport, a secondary school diploma, and be in good health. English taught programmes ask for TOEFL 79 (internet based) or IELTS 5.5 (Academic), waived for applicants from a country where English is the official or native language. Chinese taught programmes ask for HSK Level 4 or above.

Master's and PhD

SEU teaches master's programmes fully in English across engineering, business and the arts, alongside Chinese taught options. Requirements are set by the hosting school and typically include a relevant bachelor's degree, transcripts, two recommendation letters, and a study or research plan; doctoral applicants normally need a master's degree in a related field.
