Duke Kunshan University is a joint venture between Duke University and Wuhan University, based in Kunshan near Shanghai, offering a US style liberal arts undergraduate curriculum taught entirely in English. Admission follows a US style holistic review rather than a single entrance score: the admissions committee reads academic transcripts, a required essay, and any standardised test results the applicant chooses to submit, since neither the SAT or ACT nor an IELTS or TOEFL score is mandatory. Applicants whose secondary schooling was not conducted in English may submit an English test result if they believe it strengthens their file, but the university states plainly that none is required. There is no application fee. For the 2026 to 2027 academic year, the total estimated cost of attendance for international students is about 84,065 US dollars, made up of 73,740 US dollars in tuition and fees, 2,073 US dollars for insurance, and the remainder for room, board, books and supplies; the university offers a four instalment payment plan. Admitted students who wish to enrol pay a 1,000 US dollar non refundable deposit by the acceptance deadline. Need based and merit financial aid is available and is applied for alongside the admission application.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree

A secondary school diploma or equivalent, academic transcripts, a required admissions essay, and recommendation letters. Standardised tests (SAT, ACT, IELTS, TOEFL) are optional and reviewed if submitted, but no minimum score is set for any of them, and applicants without a test score are not disadvantaged in review. Interviews may be offered but are not mandatory for every applicant.
