Requirements
Bachelor's degree
Applicants must hold a foreign passport, a secondary school diploma, and be in good health. English taught programmes ask for TOEFL 79 (internet based) or IELTS 5.5 (Academic), waived for applicants from a country where English is the official or native language. Chinese taught programmes ask for HSK Level 4 or above.
Master's and PhD
SEU teaches master's programmes fully in English across engineering, business and the arts, alongside Chinese taught options. Requirements are set by the hosting school and typically include a relevant bachelor's degree, transcripts, two recommendation letters, and a study or research plan; doctoral applicants normally need a master's degree in a related field.
Documents
A completed SEU application form with a recent photo and signature, the original or a notarised copy of the academic diploma and transcripts in Chinese or English, a language certificate (HSK for Chinese taught programmes, TOEFL or IELTS for English taught programmes), and a valid passport copy. Postgraduate applicants add a study or research plan and recommendation letters.
How to apply
- Choose a programme through the College of International Students and note whether it is Chinese taught or English taught.
- Complete the SEU application form and gather the required documents.
- Mail the application materials to the College of International Students, or email scanned copies to admission@seu.edu.cn.
- Pay the 400 CNY application fee, charged when materials are submitted and not refunded regardless of the outcome.
- Once admitted, keep the payment receipt and email a scanned copy to confirm enrolment, then apply for the student visa.
English test waiver
Applicants from a country where English is the official or native language are exempt from the English test. Applicants for Chinese taught programmes instead need an HSK Level 4 certificate or above.
