Admission at a glance

North Carolina State University reviews international freshman applicants through the same application and the same two deadlines used for domestic applicants: early action by November 1 and regular decision by January 15, both for fall entry. NC State requires English proficiency proof from applicants whose first language is not English, though it exempts applicants from a list of English speaking countries that includes Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, among others. Applicants who meet NC State's academic requirements but fall short of the English proficiency minimum can be considered for conditional admission through the NC State Intensive English Program, which lets a student build English skills before starting a degree program rather than being refused outright. Test scores, whether TOEFL, IELTS, PTE Academic or Duolingo English Test, must be sent directly from the testing agency using NC State's school code, 5496, rather than self-reported. NC State does not accept application fee waivers for international applicants, unlike some of its peer public universities, and its application fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome.
