Requirements

Bachelor

International freshman applicants use the same application and the same two deadlines as domestic applicants: early action by November 1 or regular decision by January 15, for fall entry. Applicants whose first language is not English must submit an accepted English proficiency score unless they qualify for a country based exemption. Applicants who meet the academic requirements but not the English proficiency minimum may be offered conditional admission through the NC State Intensive English Program.

Documents

  • Common Application or NC State's own application
  • Official secondary school transcripts
  • English proficiency test score (TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic, PTE Academic or Duolingo English Test), sent directly from the testing agency using school code 5496, unless exempt
  • USD 100 non-refundable application fee (no fee waivers accepted for international applicants)
  • Financial documentation, requested after admission for the I-20

How to apply

  1. Apply by November 1 for early action or January 15 for regular decision, fall entry.
  2. Submit official transcripts and, unless exempt, an English proficiency score sent directly from the testing agency (school code 5496).
  3. Pay the USD 100 application fee.
  4. Receive an admission decision; applicants close to the English proficiency minimum may be offered conditional admission through the Intensive English Program instead of a refusal.
  5. If admitted, submit financial certification to receive the I-20 and apply for an F-1 student visa.

English test waiver

Applicants from a list of English speaking countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom among others, are exempt from the English proficiency test requirement.
