UC San Diego admits international first-year students through the shared University of California application, filed once between 1 October and 30 November for a fall start, with no separate international deadline or form. Applications go through UC San Diego's own comprehensive review of the file, covering coursework rigor within the applicant's own school system, grades, activities and personal insight responses, without SAT or ACT scores. UC San Diego sets its own English proficiency minimums above the UC systemwide floor, a signal that the campus expects strong academic English from incoming international students across its science, engineering and social science programs, which draw large international applicant pools every year. International first-year applicants must be completing or have completed secondary school with a certificate that allows university entry in their home country. UC San Diego's registration fee schedule bundles mandatory health insurance into what it calls tuition and fees, which makes its published total higher than the UC systemwide sticker figure quoted for tuition alone, so applicants should read the campus fee schedule rather than relying on the systemwide number.
