Admission at a glance

Harbin Institute of Technology is a national university in Harbin, in China's northeast, and one of the C9 League universities most associated with aerospace, robotics and engineering research. Its College of International Education accepts self financed applications throughout the year, up to a fixed deadline for the September intake; in the most recently published cycle this deadline was 15 July for a September start, while HIT Scholarship applicants faced an earlier window from 1 October to 15 July. All application materials, including a passport copy, high school diploma and transcripts, a China Scholastic Competency Assessment score, language proficiency certificates, a medical examination completed within six months, a certificate of no criminal record, a curriculum vitae and proof of a financial deposit of at least 20,000 CNY, must be uploaded to the online system; paper submissions are not accepted. Programmes taught in English ask for Academic IELTS above 6.0 with no subtest below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT above 80. Tuition depends on the language of instruction: 20,000 CNY a year for Chinese taught programmes and 26,000 CNY a year for English taught programmes. The application fee is 400 CNY for self financed applicants and 600 CNY for HIT Scholarship applicants, both non refundable except for accommodation fees.
