Admission at a glance
East China Normal University is a national university in Shanghai under the Ministry of Education, with a long history in teacher education alongside strong science, psychology and finance programmes. It hosts around 6,000 international students from more than 130 countries across degree and non degree programmes each year. Undergraduate applicants choose between Chinese taught majors, priced from 22,000 CNY a year for the School of International Chinese Studies up to 28,000 CNY a year for design programmes, and a smaller set of English taught business programmes, where the Business Administration double degree reaches 108,000 CNY a year and the single degree option is 54,000 CNY a year. Chinese language requirements vary by school: HSK Level 4 for Chinese language and international Chinese studies majors, HSK Level 5 for most other Chinese taught majors, and HSK Level 6 for the School of Communication, each needing a score of at least 180. English taught programmes ask for IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 85 or Cambridge English B2, unless the applicant is a native speaker. Self funded students pay an 800 CNY application fee and must settle tuition before 31 July each year; scholarship applicants follow separate, earlier deadlines tied to each scholarship scheme.
