Admission at a glance

Dalian University of Technology is a national university in Liaoning province built around engineering, with the School of International Education handling admission, scholarships and campus life for its international students in one office. Undergraduate applicants choose between Chinese taught programmes, priced by subject group from 19,500 CNY a year for Chinese, foreign languages and the humanities and social sciences up to 25,000 CNY a year for art and design, and an English taught track at 25,500 CNY a year. Architecture sits in its own band at 22,500 CNY a year. Before applying, undergraduate candidates take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment, and the university recommends completing this early to leave enough processing time. The application itself runs through DUT's online system, with all documents submitted in Chinese or English, or with a notarised translation if the original is in another language. Applicants pay an 800 CNY application fee once, when they submit their materials. Graduate tuition follows the same subject grouping but at a higher rate, from 23,000 CNY a year for humanities and social sciences up to 33,000 CNY a year for sciences and technology PhD study, with distinct higher rates for English taught master's options.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree

Applicants must be non-Chinese passport holders with a secondary school diploma, and must take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment before applying. English taught programmes ask for TOEFL 80 or above, IELTS 5.5 or above, or Duolingo 100 or above, with an exemption for applicants from an English speaking country or previously taught in English. Chinese taught programmes ask for an HSK certificate at the level the chosen major sets.

Master's and PhD

Requirements are set by the hosting school. Tuition for Chinese taught postgraduate programmes runs from 23,000 to 33,000 CNY a year depending on subject and level, with English taught options priced higher: 28,000 to 29,500 CNY a year for master's study, and 40,000 CNY a year for English taught PhD study.
