Admission at a glance

Arizona State University is a public research university headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, and one of the largest universities in the United States by enrollment. Admission is need blind for international applicants and ASU accepts the substantial majority of students who apply, both overall and specifically among international applicants, based on its own Common Data Set figures.

First year applicants, including international students, follow a two stage calendar: a priority deadline of November 1 for the fullest consideration for admission and scholarships, and a regular deadline of January 15. ASU reviews secondary school grades and course rigor as the main academic factors and does not require SAT or ACT scores, though it will consider them if submitted.

International applicants whose native language is not English must submit a proficiency score from IELTS, TOEFL, the Duolingo English Test or PTE Academic, unless they are exempt because their prior education was taught in English. ASU publishes a full estimated cost of attendance for international students, covering tuition, mandatory fees, housing, health insurance and personal expenses, which the university uses when certifying the finances needed for the visa process. The university states plainly that little need based financial aid exists for international undergraduates, so most students plan to self fund or seek external scholarships.

Requirements

Bachelor

ASU asks for a completed secondary school record, reviewed mainly for grades and course rigor rather than a fixed grade point cutoff. SAT and ACT scores are not required, although they will be considered if an applicant chooses to submit them. International applicants whose native language is not English must submit an English proficiency score unless exempt, and some programs, including nursing, engineering and journalism, set a higher English score than the university wide minimum.
