Admission at a glance

The Georgia Institute of Technology, widely known as Georgia Tech, is a public research university in Atlanta focused on engineering, computing and the sciences, and one of the more selective large public universities in the United States. International applicants, along with all other students who attend high school outside Georgia, apply under Georgia Tech's Early Action 2 round, which closes in early November, or under the Regular Decision round in early January.

Georgia Tech classifies international students as out of country for tuition purposes, a category distinct from both Georgia residents and other out of state domestic students. The university's own Fall 2026 bursar rate sheet lists out of country undergraduate tuition at 17,805 dollars a semester for a full course load, plus mandatory student fees and a required International Student Fee, for 37,326 dollars combined for the year.

English proficiency for undergraduate applicants follows the University System of Georgia's approved methods, which set a floor of TOEFL 69, IELTS 6 or PTE Academic 53 on the older scoring scales; Georgia Tech's own admissions pages do not publish a higher Georgia Tech specific number for first year applicants. Admission is highly competitive: in the most recently reported cycle, Georgia Tech admitted about 12,715 of nearly 68,000 applicants for the entering class it reported, an overall rate of roughly 13 percent.

Requirements

Bachelor

Georgia Tech reviews secondary school transcripts, course rigor and, where applicable, standardized test scores. International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through a University System of Georgia approved method such as TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic; the Duolingo English Test is welcomed as a supplementary document but does not by itself satisfy the requirement.
