Arizona State University Admission Requirements 2027

Arizona State University is a large public research university based in Tempe, Arizona, with one of the highest undergraduate admission rates among major American research universities. It admits the large majority of international applicants and publishes a detailed cost breakdown for the F-1 visa process.

Requirements

Bachelor

ASU asks for a completed secondary school record, reviewed mainly for grades and course rigor rather than a fixed grade point cutoff. SAT and ACT scores are not required, although they will be considered if an applicant chooses to submit them. International applicants whose native language is not English must submit an English proficiency score unless exempt, and some programs, including nursing, engineering and journalism, set a higher English score than the university wide minimum.

Documents

The ASU application (Common Application or ASU's own application), official secondary school transcripts, an English proficiency score where required, and, once admitted, financial documentation showing the funds needed for a year of study so ASU can issue the Form I-20 for the F-1 visa.

How to apply

Submit the ASU application by the priority or regular deadline and select a Tempe campus program.
Send official secondary school transcripts.
Submit an English proficiency score from an accepted test if your prior schooling was not in English.
Pay the application fee.
After admission, submit proof of funds so ASU's international student office can issue the I-20.

English test waiver

Some programs set a higher bar than the general minimum: the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering ask for IELTS 6.5, and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication asks for IELTS 7.0. ASU does not accept the PTE Academic Online exam, only the in person version. From January 21, 2026, TOEFL iBT also reports a new 3.5 minimum on its redesigned scale alongside the older 61 on the 0 to 120 scale.
