Admission at a glance

Western University, based in London, Ontario, groups its first-entry undergraduate programs into broad admission categories such as Arts and Humanities, Social Science, Science, Health Science, Computer Science and cohort-based Engineering, each with its own required Grade 12 or equivalent subjects and, in practice, its own competitive average. International applicants apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC), the shared application service for Ontario universities, and Western recommends applying by its equal consideration date so the application is reviewed in the first round of offers; later applications are still accepted where space remains but without that guarantee. English proficiency is demonstrated through IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo or another accepted test unless the applicant qualifies for an exemption based on the language of prior instruction. Western publishes a separate, generally higher, tuition schedule for second-entry professional programs such as Medicine, Dentistry, Law and the Ivey Business School HBA, which admit students who have already completed part or all of an undergraduate degree; these are distinct from the first-entry programs a school-leaving applicant applies to directly.

Requirements

Bachelor (first entry)

Admission is based on Grade 12 or equivalent results in the subjects each admission category requires; Engineering and Nursing are organized as cohort-based programs with their own requirements. There is no single published minimum average across all categories.

Second entry and professional programs

Programs such as Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Education and the Ivey HBA admit from among students who have already completed some or all of an undergraduate degree, with their own application process and, in most cases, a separate, higher tuition schedule.
