Admission at a glance
Memorial University of Newfoundland, generally known as MUN, is a public university based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, and is the largest university in Atlantic Canada. Unlike many Canadian universities that set a different international tuition rate for each faculty, MUN charges new international undergraduates a single flat annual rate that applies across programs on its St. John's campus, which makes the cost of a degree easier to predict regardless of a student's choice of major. Admission is based on the applicant's secondary school record in the courses required for the chosen program, and English proficiency is required unless the applicant is exempt, through a recognized test such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Duolingo, the Michigan English Test or CAEL; the Bachelor of Engineering has its own additional English requirement beyond the general undergraduate standard. MUN sets a priority deadline for the Fall term to give applicants the best chance at residence, scholarships and course selection, and a later final deadline for applications received afterward, space permitting; because study permit processing takes time, MUN advises international applicants to apply at least twelve weeks before the term they intend to start. Applicants pay a non-refundable application fee that is higher for non-Canadian applicants than for Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and a late fee applies to applications submitted within a week after a deadline.
