Admission at a glance

The University of British Columbia enrols international undergraduates at two campuses, UBC Vancouver at Point Grey and UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, which run separate admission cycles and, in most cases, separate tuition schedules. What UBC calls the Winter Session is the main entry point and runs from September to April; a smaller Summer Session runs from May to August with fewer programs. Applicants apply directly to UBC rather than through a shared provincial application service. Along with transcripts in the required courses for the chosen degree, most direct entry applicants to UBC Vancouver submit a personal profile describing activities, character and context, which the university weighs alongside academic grades rather than using grades alone. English proficiency can be met in nine different ways, most commonly an IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or Cambridge English score, with the required minimum set centrally rather than varying by faculty. UBC guarantees that a student's base tuition rate will not rise by more than 3 percent a year after the first year, for students starting from the 2026/27 year. Applicants should check the specific degree page for course prerequisites, since these differ between the Faculty of Arts, Applied Science (engineering), Science, the Sauder School of Business and other faculties.

Applicants need the specific courses each degree requires (for example, Calculus and Physics for most Applied Science programs) completed or in progress in the final year of secondary school, plus a personal profile for most direct entry Vancouver campus applicants. There is no single published minimum average; UBC states it reviews the whole application rather than grades alone.

Graduate

Set by the individual graduate program; applicants should confirm requirements, references and, for research based programs, a supervisor, on the specific program's page before applying.
