University of British Columbia Admission Requirements 2027

The University of British Columbia has a large Vancouver campus and a smaller Okanagan campus in Kelowna, and is one of Canada's most selective public universities for international undergraduates. Admission weighs secondary school grades in required courses alongside a personal profile. UBC calls its main September to April academic session the Winter Session.

Requirements

Bachelor

Applicants need the specific courses each degree requires (for example, Calculus and Physics for most Applied Science programs) completed or in progress in the final year of secondary school, plus a personal profile for most direct entry Vancouver campus applicants. There is no single published minimum average; UBC states it reviews the whole application rather than grades alone.

Graduate

Set by the individual graduate program; applicants should confirm requirements, references and, for research based programs, a supervisor, on the specific program's page before applying.

Documents

Official secondary school transcripts in the required courses; a personal profile (Vancouver campus, most direct entry programs); English proficiency test results unless exempt; supporting documents any specific program requests.

How to apply

  1. Choose a campus (Vancouver or Kelowna) and degree, and confirm the required courses.
  2. Apply online directly through UBC's own application, and pay the application fee.
  3. Complete the personal profile component where the program requires one.
  4. Submit or arrange transcripts and English test scores.
  5. Track the application and respond to any document requests through the applicant portal.
  6. Accept an offer and apply for a study permit.

English test waiver

UBC lists nine different ways to meet its English requirement, including several years of full-time study taught in English; applicants who do not yet meet the requirement can take an academic English development program instead of a test.
