Admission at a glance
Okayama University is a large national university in Okayama Prefecture with faculties spanning medicine, law, engineering, agriculture and the humanities. Its main English-medium route for international undergraduates is the Discovery Program for Global Learners, known as the Discovery Program or GDP, which lets students design an interdisciplinary study plan across areas such as sustainability, cultural studies and health science while every class is taught in English. The programme runs two application periods each year: a first period open to both April/October and October-only entry, and a second period open to October-only entry. Applicants need secondary education equivalent to a Japanese high school diploma and English proficiency, shown through IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge English, EIKEN, GTEC, TEAP, TOEIC or an IB English score; the programme recommends CEFR level B2 or higher but does not set a minimum score for any single test, unless the applicant has fewer than five years of secondary education taught in English. Outside the Discovery Program, Okayama's regular undergraduate faculties teach in Japanese and expect the EJU. Tuition for Discovery Program students starts at the programme's own published rate but is reduced for most international students to match the rate Japanese students pay, so the effective annual cost is usually the national university standard figure.

Bachelor
The Discovery Program for Global Learners admits international applicants who have completed, or expect to complete, secondary education equivalent to a Japanese high school diploma. English proficiency is required for all applicants without five or more years of English-medium secondary schooling; the programme recommends CEFR B2 but sets no fixed pass mark. Selection uses submitted documents and a three-part personal statement, with test scores dated after September 2024 for the cycles checked.
