The University of Calgary applies directly through its own online application rather than a shared provincial service, and international applicants pay a higher, separate non-refundable application fee than applicants presenting only Canadian education. Admission to most undergraduate programs is based on grades in required senior secondary courses, with English, and Mathematics for many Science, Engineering and Business programs, commonly required. The university charges tuition per 3-unit course rather than a single flat annual figure, grouping programs into fee rate groups: for 2026, the Faculty of Arts and Science sits in the lower Group A rate while the Schulich School of Engineering sits in a higher Group C rate, so a student's actual charge depends on how many courses, and which courses, they take in a year. A standard full-time course load is 30 units a year, about ten 3-unit courses, which gives an approximate annual tuition range across these two groups. English proficiency can be met through IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo, with Nursing and Education programs requiring a higher IELTS score than the general institutional minimum. International applications typically open the previous August and close 1 March for the Fall intake, with decisions and document deadlines following.
