University at Buffalo, the largest and one of the most comprehensive campuses in the State University of New York system, accepts first-year applications through three platforms: ApplySUNY, the Common Application or the Coalition for College application, whichever an applicant already uses for other schools. Early action closes November 1, an Honors College priority date follows on December 15, and the regular decision completion deadline, meaning every required document rather than only the form, is February 1, with continued review afterward until capacity is reached. UB's English proficiency minimums sit below several of its public research university peers: a TOEFL iBT of 70, an IELTS Academic of 6.0, a Duolingo English Test of 105 or a PTE Academic of 50, alongside alternative routes through SAT, ACT, IB, AP or British curriculum exam results. UB separates its published cost figures for F-1 and J-1 international students from its general out-of-state figure, since international students also pay a mandatory International Student Fee and SUNY health insurance that other non-resident students do not, which makes UB one of the more transparent SUNY campuses about the real total international students pay.
