Requirements

Bachelor's degree

Applicants need a completed senior high school education and a valid passport; those graduating before July of the intake year submit a pre-graduation certificate from their school instead of a final diploma. English medium programmes require TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.0 or above, or equivalent proof of English proficiency; Chinese medium programmes are assessed on Chinese ability instead.

Graduate

HUST publishes separate application guides for international graduate students each cycle; this record focuses on the undergraduate route, the clearest channel this project could confirm from HUST's official pages.

Documents

Passport copy, high school diploma or pre-graduation certificate and transcripts, an English test result or HSK certificate matching the programme's language of instruction, a physical examination report, and other materials listed in the specific programme's application guide.

How to apply

  1. Choose a programme and confirm whether it is Chinese medium or English medium, since the language requirement differs.
  2. Register and apply through the HUST Online Applicant System within the published window, which opened 15 October in the most recently published cycle.
  3. Pay the 600 CNY non refundable application fee.
  4. Submit transcripts, the language test or HSK result, and the physical examination report.
  5. Wait for the admission decision from the International Student Office.
  6. Apply for the JW201 or JW202 form and an X1 student visa before travelling to China; budget for the 400 CNY residence permit fee and up to 500 CNY physical examination fee after arrival.

English test waiver

For English medium programmes, HUST asks for TOEFL iBT 80 or above, or IELTS 6.0 or above, or another certificate of equivalent proficiency; native English speakers are exempt. Programmes taught in Chinese are assessed on Chinese ability instead, generally through an HSK certificate reviewed as part of the application.
