Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Admission Requirements 2027

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is a public research university teaching across the sciences, humanities, social sciences, law, medicine and business. Its official non-EEA institutional bachelor's fee schedule for 2026-2027 runs from EUR 14,310 a year for most programmes to EUR 35,640 a year for Medicine and EUR 34,700 for Dentistry.

Requirements

Bachelor

A secondary qualification recognised as giving access to university-level study, meeting the chosen programme's own subject prerequisites. English-taught programmes require IELTS Academic 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 92, unless exempt; Philosophy Politics and Economics and Law in Society set higher component minimums. Numerus fixus programmes, including Psychology, add a selection procedure.

Master

A relevant bachelor's degree meeting the specific master's programme's own grade and subject requirements.

Documents

Diploma and transcript of secondary (and, where relevant, higher) education, certified translation if not in Dutch or English, a passport copy, and an English test certificate unless exempt. Numerus fixus applicants also complete any additional selection steps the programme sets.

How to apply

Register in Studielink for your chosen bachelor's or master's programme from 1 October.
Pay the EUR 100 application fee if you hold an international diploma and are not exempt.
Complete VU's own application and upload your diploma, transcript and English test result before the deadline (15 January for numerus fixus programmes, 1 April for other non-EU applicants).
If admitted and from outside the EU/EEA, apply for a residence permit for study with VU Amsterdam as your recognised sponsor.
Pay the tuition invoice, due before 31 August 2026 for that cycle, and arrange housing and health insurance before enrolling.

English test waiver

Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) and Law in Society set stricter component-specific minimums above the general 6.5/92 floor shown here; check the specific programme page. The application fee is waived for applicants whose international diploma (for example IB or A-levels) was obtained within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, or who already paid it for another VU programme in the same cycle.
