The University of Manitoba admits most new undergraduates into University 1, a common first year that lets students explore courses before formally entering a specific faculty, alongside direct-entry programs in faculties such as Engineering, Science and Management that have their own admission profile from the start. Applicants apply directly to the university rather than through a shared provincial service, and pay a separate non-refundable application fee. Academic admission is based on the applicant's grades in required senior secondary subjects for the chosen entry route. Tuition is billed per credit hour and varies by teaching unit. English proficiency is demonstrated through IELTS, IELTS Indicator, TOEFL iBT, PTE or Duolingo, each valid for two years from the test date and must remain valid at the start of the admission term.
