Leiden University, founded in 1575, teaches bachelor's and master's programmes across the humanities, law, social and behavioural sciences, science, and medicine, from campuses in Leiden and The Hague. International bachelor's applicants register through Studielink and complete Leiden's own application, uploading a diploma, transcript and English test result. Applicants with an international degree pay a non-refundable EUR 100 application fee, which covers up to three programmes or specialisations in the same academic year; the fee is waived for those who are following, or have completed, a bachelor's degree at a Dutch university.

English proficiency is checked against IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with 6.0 in every component, or TOEFL Internet-Based 80 overall with 20 in every component; test results cannot be more than two years old. Leiden does not accept online or home-edition variants of these tests for admission.

Non-EEA institutional tuition varies by faculty: most Humanities, Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Governance and Global Affairs bachelor's programmes charge about EUR 14,300 a year, Science and Biomedical Sciences programmes charge about EUR 18,700, and Medicine charges about EUR 30,200. Applicants without a numerus fixus programme have until 1 May to apply, or 1 April if they need a Dutch visa or residence permit; numerus fixus programmes close 15 January.

Requirements

Bachelor

A secondary qualification recognised as giving access to university-level study, meeting the chosen programme's own subject prerequisites. English-taught programmes require IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (6.0 per component) or TOEFL iBT 80 overall (20 per component), unless exempt.

Master

A relevant bachelor's degree meeting the specific master's programme's own grade and subject requirements; several master's programmes ask for a higher English level than the bachelor's floor.
