Admission at a glance
Kyushu University is a national research university based in Fukuoka, on the southern island of Kyushu, and one of Japan's nine former imperial universities. Its International Undergraduate Programs (IUP) are taught entirely in English and do not require Japanese ability at entry, spanning the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation, several Engineering tracks (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Applied Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering), and a Bioresource and Bioenvironment programme; each is run by its own faculty with a shared general application structure but its own detailed instructions published yearly as a PDF.
For the October 2027 intake, Kyushu's online application system opened for a short window in December 2026, with physical documents mailed afterward and the semester itself beginning the following October. Applicants generally submit an English test score, either TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.0, or documented evidence that a prior period of study was conducted in English, alongside academic transcripts. Kyushu charges the same standard national tuition to Japanese and international students. Graduate admission at Kyushu is set separately by each graduate school, and the university also admits a large number of international students through the general Japanese-taught route using EJU scores.

Requirements
Bachelor's (International Undergraduate Programs)
Applicants need to have completed, or be on track to complete, 12 years of school education recognised as equivalent to Japanese upper secondary school, along with any subject prerequisites the specific programme sets (for example, mathematics and physics for the Engineering tracks). No Japanese ability is required at entry.
Master's and PhD
Each graduate school sets its own requirements and deadline; a relevant Bachelor's degree (or Master's degree for doctoral study) recognised as equivalent to a Japanese degree is the general baseline.
