Keio University Admission 2027: Deadlines, Requirements, Fees for International Students

Admission at a glance

Keio University was founded in 1858 and is Japan's oldest institution of higher education, with its main campuses in and around Tokyo. Two undergraduate programmes let international students study a full bachelor's degree in English. PEARL, the Programme in Economics for Alliances, Research and Leadership, sits inside the Faculty of Economics and admits students every September through three rolling application periods. GIGA, the Global Information and Governance Academic programme, sits across the Faculty of Policy Management and the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies on the Shonan Fujisawa Campus and admits students under a Winter AO selection for both September and April entry. Both programmes ask every applicant, including native English speakers, to submit a TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic score, together with SAT or International Baccalaureate results, but Keio states clearly that neither programme sets a minimum cut-off score; applications are read as a whole. Beyond these two undergraduate tracks, several of Keio's graduate schools, including the Graduate School of Economics, run English-medium admission routes for master's and doctoral applicants with their own application periods that can fall in either April or September. Tuition follows the Faculty of Economics fee schedule for PEARL applicants and is billed twice a year.

Requirements

Bachelor

PEARL (Faculty of Economics) and GIGA (Faculty of Policy Management / Faculty of Environment and Information Studies) admit international applicants who have completed, or are expected to complete, 12 years of school education equivalent to a Japanese high school diploma. Both ask for a TOEFL iBT and/or IELTS Academic score from every applicant and either SAT or IB results; there is no published minimum score for either test.

Master

Graduate School of Economics general admission for international applicants runs two application periods a year, for April and September enrolment, and asks for transcripts, a research plan and an interview; specific English test requirements are set by each graduate school.
