Hokkaido University is a national research university in Sapporo and one of Japan's former imperial universities. Its Modern Japanese Studies Program (MJSP) is a 4.5-year bachelor's degree, half taught in Japanese and half in English, combining a six-month intensive Japanese course with four years of degree study.

First call for the Modern Japanese Studies Program cycle covering an Intensive Japanese Course starting October 2027 and the Bachelor's degree course itself starting April 2028 (Hokkaido labels this the 2028 Enrollment cycle since that is when the degree course begins). Interviews are held 5-14 January 2027 with results announced 12 February 2027. A second call runs registration 2-9 February 2027, interviews 6-15 April 2027 and results 13 May 2027, for places still open.
