The VU Fellowship Programme, run by Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, offers a tuition fee waiver to talented prospective non-EU/EEA students admitted to the first year of a full-time, English-taught master's programme at the university. To qualify, applicants must show academic excellence equivalent to at least a Dutch grade of 8.0, hold a non-EU/EEA passport that makes them liable for the higher institutional tuition fee, not already hold a degree earned in the Netherlands, and not be currently enrolled in a Dutch bachelor's or master's programme. The fellowship covers tuition fees only; it does not provide any additional allowance for living costs such as rent, food or insurance, so recipients need separate means to cover those expenses. Students awarded the VU Fellowship Programme are automatically considered for a linked NL Scholarship worth EUR 5,000 or EUR 10,000, though VU Amsterdam distributes only 20 to 25 of those among its VUFP recipients each year, so receiving the fellowship does not guarantee the additional award. The university's advised deadline for submitting the VUFP application through the applicant's personal VU dashboard, alongside the master's programme application, was 1 February 2026 for programmes starting in September 2026.
