Tsinghua and Peking University are both national universities in Beijing and, together, the two most internationally recognised universities in China, though they run different admission routes for international undergraduates. Tsinghua's process uses its own review, an integrative test and, for some divisions, a portfolio, rather than a single written exam, and students choose a specific school only after a first year of general study; tuition runs from CNY 26,000 to 70,000 a year, a wide range by division, and it asks for IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 80. Peking's main undergraduate route for international students is its own written entrance examination covering Chinese, English and mathematics, a more exam based route than Tsinghua's; its tuition range is narrower, CNY 26,000 to 30,000 a year, and it publishes a TOEFL floor of 100 with no IELTS figure given here, a notably higher English bar than Tsinghua's. A student more comfortable with a formal written exam may find Peking's route clearer; one who prefers holistic review with a general first year may find Tsinghua's structure suits better.
