University of Reading Admission Requirements 2027

Reading is a research intensive university with particular strength in agriculture, meteorology and built environment subjects. Its official 2026-27 fee schedule sets two clear overseas undergraduate rates by course type, non-laboratory and laboratory or workshop based. Masters admissions have no formal deadline for most programmes, with recommended dates rather than hard cut-offs.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree

A-levels, the International Baccalaureate or another equivalent qualification at the level the specific course states, plus English language ability of IELTS 6.5 overall with no element below 5.5, or higher for some courses such as Speech and Language Therapy.

Master's degree

A relevant bachelor's degree, normally at 2:1 level or its overseas equivalent, plus the English language level the specific programme states. Most programmes have no formal deadline; recommended dates apply instead.

Documents

UCAS application and personal statement for undergraduate courses, or Reading's own RISIS online application for Masters courses; academic transcripts and predicted or achieved grades; academic reference; English language test certificate at the required level; passport for identity and later for the Student visa.

How to apply

  1. Register with UCAS and choose Reading as one of up to five choices for undergraduate study, or apply directly online through RISIS for a Masters course.
  2. Check the specific course's entry requirements and English language level.
  3. Submit the UCAS application by 18:00 UK time on 13 January 2027 for 2027 entry; for a Masters course without its own stated deadline, Reading recommends UK applicants apply by 1 August and international applicants needing a visa apply by 1 July for entry that September.
  4. Receive a decision; undergraduate offers are usually conditional on final grades.
  5. Meet the offer conditions, including the English language requirement.
  6. Apply for the Student visa once the place is confirmed unconditionally.

English test waiver

Reading's standard undergraduate requirement, confirmed on its own page, is IELTS 6.5 overall with no element below 5.5, or the equivalent TOEFL iBT 88, PTE Academic 69 (with a slightly different per-skill minimum depending on the exact test version), or Duolingo 125 overall with no sub score below 100. Reading also accepts a Duolingo 120 or 115 overall score combined with a 6 or 10 week pre-sessional English course respectively. Higher levels apply to some courses, for example Speech and Language Therapy at IELTS 8.0.
