Pohang University of Science and Technology Admission Requirements 2027

POSTECH began admitting international undergraduates for the first time in its history with the Fall 2026 intake, entirely in English, with the same full first-semester scholarship domestic freshmen receive. It plans to move to twice-yearly admission, in March and September, from 2027.

Requirements

Bachelor

Applicants must be either a foreign national whose parents are both also foreign nationals, or a Korean national who completed the whole of primary and secondary education abroad. Selection is by comprehensive document review only, with no entrance exam and no fixed quota confirmed for the pilot Fall 2026 cohort.

Master's and PhD

POSTECH's graduate schools, including the GIFT (Graduate Institute of Ferrous Technology) programme and other departments, publish their own admission requirements; a relevant bachelor's degree (or master's for doctoral applicants) and an English proficiency score (TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.0 for GIFT) are the general baseline.

Documents

Application form, academic transcripts and a certificate of (expected) graduation, proof of the applicant's and parents' nationality, and any supporting statement of purpose or recommendation POSTECH's admission guide requests; POSTECH's international undergraduate applications are submitted through the government's Study in Korea online portal rather than a POSTECH-run system.

How to apply

  1. Confirm which of the two eligibility routes applies: foreign parents, or a Korean national educated entirely abroad.
  2. Apply through the Study in Korea government portal within POSTECH's published window.
  3. Submit the supporting documents POSTECH's guide requests by the stated deadline.
  4. Wait for POSTECH's admission decision, since review is document-based only with no separate interview confirmed for this track.
  5. If admitted, complete enrolment and confirm your automatic first-semester tuition scholarship and any Korean-language support POSTECH offers new international students.

English test waiver

POSTECH's undergraduate programme is taught entirely in English, and its own admission material for the first international cohort names no fixed English or Korean minimum score, evaluating applicants by comprehensive document review instead. The figures recorded here, TOEFL iBT 79 and IELTS 6.0, are POSTECH's published minimum for its GIFT graduate track and are used as the clearest official reference point since undergraduate admission does not publish one.
