Requirements

Bachelor

Ohio State reviews secondary school transcripts holistically, alongside standardized test scores if submitted, rigor of coursework, and other factors. International applicants whose native language is not English submit a TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo English Test score, or an alternative such as a qualifying SAT or ACT English score, unless exempt through prior schooling in English.

Documents

The Common Application, official secondary school transcripts, an English proficiency score or an accepted alternative where required, and, after admission, financial documentation so Ohio State can issue the Form I-20 for the F-1 visa.

How to apply

  1. Apply through the Common Application by the early action or regular decision deadline and select the Columbus campus.
  2. Submit official secondary school transcripts.
  3. Submit an English proficiency score or an accepted alternative if required.
  4. Pay the 70 dollar nonrefundable application fee; fee waivers are not available for international applicants.
  5. After admission, submit financial documentation so Ohio State can issue the I-20.

English test waiver

Ohio State also accepts an SAT Evidence Based Reading and Writing score of 550 or higher, or an ACT English score of 21 or higher, as an alternative way to demonstrate English proficiency, or a required minimum period of study at a US regionally accredited high school or in an approved English speaking country. From January 21, 2026, TOEFL iBT also reports a 4.0 minimum on its redesigned scale alongside the older 79 on the 0 to 120 scale.
