Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission (UK Government)

The Marshall Scholarship is funded by the UK government as a permanent thank you to the United States for Marshall Plan aid after the Second World War, and funds American citizens to pursue graduate study at any UK university, in any field. Candidates must be citizens of the United States, hold their first undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college by the time they take up the scholarship, and have a strong academic record, typically around a 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Applicants cannot apply directly to the Marshall Commission; they must first be nominated by their undergraduate institution, and most institutions set their own internal nomination deadline in July or August, well ahead of the national deadline. Scholars choose from five possible study pathways: a one-year master's degree, two consecutive one-year master's degrees, a single two-year master's degree, a full PhD, or a one-year master's followed by the start of a PhD in the second year. Funding covers overseas transportation to and from the UK, all tuition and fees at the host university, and a personal living allowance, for typically two years of study. For the 2027 competition, the deadline for applicants and their recommenders is 29 September 2026 at 5pm in the time zone of the endorsing US institution, with the institution's own endorsement and submission due by 1 October 2026.
